JENNY PERLIN - The Same Moon Everywhere

Die Künstlerin nutzte ihren derzeitigen Berlin-Aufenthalt für die Realisierung
der neuen Filmarbeit The Same Moon Everywhere.
Anfangs schildert die Autorin aus dem Off den Beginn einer Reise in den Kosovo, wo sie eine Dokumentation über das Leben kurz nach Kriegsende drehen will. Sie illustriert ihre einführenden Worte mit Bildern in assoziativcollageartiger Abfolge und Stop-Motion Animationen, ohne die von ihr beschriebenen Gegebenheiten darzustellen. Ihre weiteren Eindrücke, die sie in der nur mit Worten geschilderten Reise filmisch festgehalten haben will, ihre Gespräche und die desolaten Lebensumstände, muß der Betrachter selbst in Bilder verpacken. Es ist ungewiß, in welchem Zusammenhang der weitere Verlauf dieser Geschichte steht: eine junge, in Berlin gestrandete Migrantin, mit der wir einen Tagesablauf erleben.
Perlin reflektiert in diesem Film ein Alltagsleben unter extremen Umständen, das selbst in ihren Schilderungen ohne Bilder nachvollziehbar ist. Er behandelt u.a. die Frage, inwieweit sich Darstellung von „Geschichte“ auf unser Verhalten auswirken kann. Im Gegensatz zu früheren Filmen wie Perseverance & How to Develop It, Schumann, View from Elsewhere und Washing, in denen sie das volle Potenzial des Mediums - Direktheit und Metapher - ausnutzt, setzt sie in The Same Moon Everywhere erzählerische und fiktionale Elemente ein.
Begleitend zu dem Film zeigt die Künstlerin seit langer Zeit wieder Fotoarbeiten sowie einige Artefakte, die im Film eine wesentliche Rolle spielen, aber nur in der Ausstellung tatsächlich zu sehen sein werden. Perlins Arbeiten wurden weltweit in bedeutenden Museen sowie auf renommierten Festivals gezeigt. Vom Museum of Modern Art, New York, dem Folkwang Museum in Essen, dem Guggenheim Museum, New York bis hin zum Whitney Museum of American Art, dem Rotterdam Filmfestival und dem Images Filmfestival, Toronto.

JENNY PERLIN - The Same Moon Everywhere

The artist used her current stay in Berlin to realize her new film work The Same Moon Everywhere.
Initially the artist describes in a voiceover the beginning of a journey to Kosovo, where she intends to make a documentary about life shortly after the end of the war. She illustrates her opening words with pictures in associative collage-like sequences and with stop-motion animation, without depicting the facts that she is describing. Further impressions of this journey, which is portrayed only verbally, and which she wants to capture on film, as well as her conversations and the desolate living conditions, have to be put into pictures by the viewer. It is uncertain in how far the following story of a young female immigrant, stranded in Berlin, and with whom we share the events of a day, is related to this.
In this film, Perlin reflects on everyday life lived under extreme conditions, which is already understandable through her descriptions without pictures. The film is, among other things, about the question as to which extent the description of “history” can affect our behavior. In contrast to other films, such as Perseverance & How to Develop It, Schumann, View from Elsewhere and Washing, in which she exploits the full potential of the medium - directness and metaphor - in The Same Moon Everywhere she employs narrative and fictional elements.
Accompanying the film the artist shows once again (after a long interval) photographic works as well as some artifacts which play an essential role in the film, but which will be on view only in the exhibition. Perlin’s works are shown worldwide at important museums and prestigious festivals. From the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Folkwang Museum in Essen, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, to the Whitney Museum of American Art, to the Rotterdam Film Festival and the Images Film Festival in Toronto.
